About Halden Electric

After many years as a musician and song-writer, Anders Svendsen is finally ready with his debut album. Under the name Halden Electric.

He started his first band in 1988 and then went on to the band Haif Of The Dog, one of the first Americana-bands in Norway. He played different string instruments with Tine Valand of Somebody’s Darling for a couple of years. He has also worked on sessions with Bob Egan of Wilco and Blue Rodeo.

Home On The Range Studios

The record was made in his own Home On The Range Studios. As the name implies, this is within the house.

-Doing everything on my own makes it a longer road in every way. But having total control and freedom makes it worth it. On the other hand, this would, of course, not be possible without the assistance of truly good friends.

Haldens Electric - lokal history

Haldens Electric was the name of a matchstick factory in Svendsen’s home town up until 1922. Ironically, it burned to the ground. (Did anyone say, don’t play with those matches, son). It was then moved to Bryn in Oslo, a few hundred meters behind Home On The Range Studios.

-Someone put an old matchstick box in my hand one day and I really liked the name and the layout. Well, the coincidence of where I come from and the fact that the factory was moved here, made me see a connection. If you make a band out it, good things might happen.

No need to hold back

The next album is already in the making, and the creative flow of writing and recording music doesn’t seem to end. Friends and family picked the 12 songs on the album, out of a batch of 48 songs. An unusual democratic process.

- Well, this is what I do and there’s no need to hold back. Some people watch TV or whatever, I play and write. That’s what I like doing. I freed myself from the ambitions of making the perfect album. I rather invited friends over to make a musical document of where the songs were at that time. I believe you can hear influences from a great variety of genres and artists on this album. At the same time, it’s still the same band.
